  • Biography: Shazia Qasim Jamshed, PhD, is an Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She did her Bachelors of Pharmacy (BPharm) in 1992 and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in 1995 from the University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan. She earned her PhD on the contemporary issues surrounding generic medicine use among healthcare professionals and future practitioners. Dr. Shazia is a faculty at IIUM since 2012. Previously she worked in International Medical University (lecturer) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (fellow researcher). Prior to her PhD she worked in different medical and pharmacy schools in Pakistan and in India.
    Dr. Shazia’s primary research interests encompass generic medicine utilization, pharmacy education and practice-based research. Over the past two years she worked on the issues associated with care perspectives in oral health, Alzheimer’s disease, alternative therapies, self-medication practices, radiopharmacy, and antibiotic resistance.
    In terms of scholarship Dr. Shazia has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, periodicals and newspapers. She shared her research work through more than 20 oral and poster presentations around the globe. She authored two book chapters titled "Introduction to Social Pharmacy" (Elsevier) and "The Pharmaceutical Industry, Intellectual Property Rights and Access to Medicines in Pakistan" (McMillan and Palgrave). She won the travel grant for International Social Pharmacy Conference Auckland 2008, and Portugal 2010. She earned the prestigious Pharmaceutical Policy Analysis course travel grant, Summer School, Utercht Netherland 2014. She has received 7 internal research grants to conduct research in different areas of pharmacy education. She is appointed by the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka as supervisor for undergraduate pharmacy and nursing research. She is currently supervising and co-supervising three PhD, two masters and 20 undergraduate students.
